Frequently asked questions Real questions, direct answers. If yours isn't here, write to hello@pixelplots.eu and we'll add it.
Buying & ownership Buying & ownership ▸ Is the tile really permanent? Yes. One payment, no renewal, no monthly billing. The commitment is written into the manifest and the Terms — your tile stays on the map for the operational life of Pixelplots.
▸ What happens if Pixelplots shuts down? If Aetheron AB ever winds the project down, we publish the full tile database (coordinates, images, destinations) as an open archive under a permissive licence, and give 12 months' notice on the homepage. The map outlives us by design.
▸ Can I sell or transfer my tile to someone else? Yes. Your tile is tied to your wallet or email login, and the management dashboard exposes a transfer flow. We don't take a commission on transfers.
▸ Can I get a refund? Under EU consumer law, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal — but only if your tile hasn't been published yet. Once your image is live on the public map (which usually happens within minutes of payment), the digital service has been performed and the withdrawal right ends. We make this consent explicit at checkout.
▸ How does the 14-day right of withdrawal work in practice? If you complete checkout but don't upload an image, the tile is unpublished and you can request a refund within 14 days. If you upload an image and publish, you've consented to immediate performance and waived the withdrawal right. This is standard for downloadable / live digital products in the EU.
▸ Can I change my image, URL or title later? Yes, as often as you like, from your management dashboard. The coordinate is permanent; the content on it is editable.
▸ Do I own the pixels or am I licensing them? You're buying a perpetual, transferable, revocable-only-for-policy-violations licence to display content at that coordinate. The map itself remains operated by Aetheron AB.
Marketing & traffic Marketing & traffic ▸ How much traffic does Pixelplots get? We're launching now, so the honest answer is: not very much yet. Traffic numbers are published transparently on the leaderboard and we'll add a public dashboard once the data is meaningful. Early tiles are cheaper for a reason.
▸ Is this a fair channel for B2B? It works best for products whose buyers self-identify as indie makers, founders, or technically curious. If your ICP is a procurement officer at a Fortune 500, this is not your channel. If it's a developer choosing a stack on a Sunday evening, it might be.
▸ How do you stop the map filling up with crypto scams? Manual review on first publish, automated checks against known scam domains, and an explicit policy that bans phishing, fake giveaways, impersonation and unlicensed financial services. Bad tiles get refunded and removed.
▸ What's the moderation policy? Disallowed: illegal content, doxing, hate speech, sexual content, malware, deceptive financial offers, impersonation. Allowed: anything else legal in the EU. We publish the full policy at /legal.
▸ Will my tile be removed for political content? Only if it crosses into illegal hate speech or incitement under EU law. Ordinary political opinion, advocacy or critique is fine. We aim to be permissive without being a megaphone for harm.
Technical & legal Technical & legal ▸ Where are the servers? Frankfurt, Germany. Supabase eu-central-1 for the database and storage, Vercel's EU region for the web tier. Nothing leaves the EU under normal operation.
▸ Are you GDPR-compliant? Yes, natively. We don't transfer personal data outside the EEA, we minimise what we collect, and we publish a plain-language privacy notice at /legal/privacy.
▸ Who is the data controller? Aetheron AB, registered in Stockholm, Sweden. Contact privacy@pixelplots.eu for data-subject requests; we respond within the GDPR-mandated 30 days.
▸ Are animated GIFs supported? Yes. Static PNGs and JPEGs are also fine. WebP and APNG work but we re-encode to GIF for broad browser support.
▸ What's the maximum file size? 256 KB per tile, regardless of block size. For animated GIFs we additionally cap at 30 frames to keep the map responsive on mobile.
▸ What image dimensions should I upload? One pixel of tile equals 10 image pixels — so a 3×3 block renders best at 30×30 px. We accept larger uploads and downscale with nearest-neighbour to preserve the pixelated look.
▸ Do I get a VAT receipt? Yes. Every Stripe payment generates a VAT-inclusive receipt PDF with Aetheron AB's organisation number, your buyer details (if provided) and the applicable EU VAT rate. Crypto payments through NOWPayments receive a simplified invoice.
▸ Can I get a proper invoice for company accounting? Yes — enter your company name, address and VAT number at checkout and we issue a reverse-charge B2B invoice for EU customers outside Sweden, or a Swedish VAT invoice domestically.
